Jordan Gibson, a former standout player for Carlisle United, will play for one of the Blues’ League Two rivals the following season.
The offensive midfielder agreed to a two-year contract with Doncaster Rovers.
It comes after the Blues discharged him at the conclusion of the 2023–2024 campaign.
A month after leaving the Cumbrians, where he was the team’s top scorer the previous season, the 26-year-old, whose contract with Donny contains an option for an additional year, has guaranteed his future.
Speaking on Doncaster’s website, Gibson stated, “It’s been in the works for a while.”

“I’m really looking forward to getting started.
“I had positive chats with the manager and it’s a club with real potential with the project and the plans that he has got in place.
“The run the club went on towards the end of last season made everyone pay attention. It’s a good club with a good manager and I’m hoping we can do good things.”
Doncaster were losing play-off semi-finalists in League Two last season after an impressive run of form in the second half of the campaign.
Grant McCann, their manager, predicted that Gibson would thrill the crowd. He can score and set up goals, is very direct, and loves to get at people.
“I like his confident air and swagger. He exudes confidence.” He seems like a really wise addition to our team.
Gibson joined United from Sligo Rovers in 2021 and stayed there until 2024.
The former Bradford City player played 143 games and netted 20 goals for the Brunton Park team during that time.
Gibson was instrumental in United’s effort to survive in League Two during his first campaign. Under Paul Simpson, the team overcame an early lead from Chris Beech and subsequently Keith Millen.

“And when he’s on his game – yes, he was good.
“I made a decision because of what’s happened probably over two seasons.
“I’ll be really honest with you, last season when we took out his option, I was advised by the other staff that we should let him go, but I felt as though I wanted to work with him, I wanted to give him a chance.
“Early on in the season he showed us what he’s about, but ultimately we just felt it was time for Jordan Gibson to move on and to try and progress his career somewhere else.”
Following his release, Gibson took to social media to emphasise that, despite some “tough times” in his life, his dedication to United had never faltered.
On June 26, when the 2024–25 League Two fixtures are announced, Gibson’s Brunton Park reunion date will be revealed.
