Duke University has announced its Hall of Fame inductees for 2024, with basketball legend JJ Redick leading the class. Redick, a former Blue Devil star, will be officially inducted into Duke’s Hall of Fame this fall, an honor many fans feel is long overdue.
The announcement came shortly after Redick concluded his duties as an ESPN broadcaster for the NBA Finals. As he transitions from broadcasting, there is growing speculation about his potential next move—possibly becoming the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Joining Redick in the 2024 Hall of Fame class are Monique Currie (women’s basketball), John Danowski (men’s lacrosse coach), Matt Danowski (men’s lacrosse), Anna Grzebien Vanderlinde (women’s golf), Abby Johnston McGrath (women’s diving), Quinton McCracken (baseball and football), Chris Port (football), and Becca Ward (women’s fencing). Each inductee has significantly contributed to Duke’s rich athletic history.
Redick’s tenure at Duke was nothing short of spectacular. Over four years, he scored a record-setting 2,769 points and was named National Player of the Year twice, in 2005 and 2006. Under his leadership, the Blue Devils secured three ACC Tournament Championships and made it to the Final Four in 2004. His legacy at Duke is immortalized with his No. 4 jersey hanging in the rafters of Cameron Indoor Stadium since 2007.
After his illustrious college career, Redick was a first-round pick in the NBA Draft and enjoyed a 15-year career in the league. He has since transitioned into media, quickly becoming a respected basketball commentator.
Rumors about Redick possibly becoming the next head coach of the Lakers have been circulating, though no official confirmation has been made. Should he take on this role, it would mark his first foray into coaching, with the potential of mentoring stars like LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
The Duke Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set for Friday, October 25, coinciding closely with the start of the 2024-25 NBA season. This timing adds an intriguing layer to the ongoing speculation about Redick’s future in basketball.
