Drake On Raptors Potentially Retiring Demar DeRozan’s Jersey: “I’ll Go Up There And Pull It Down Myself

Rapper and Toronto Raptors superfan Drake was in attendance to see the franchise retire Vince Carter’s jersey in the game against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday. At one point, Drake joined the TSN broadcast, where he made it clear he wouldn’t want to see DeMar DeRozan’s jersey get retired by the Raptors.
“If you ever put a DeRozan banner up, I’ll go up there and pull it down myself,” Drake said.
Drake also said during the broadcast that it was unfortunate they were playing “this goof” on Carter’s special night. As if all that wasn’t bad enough, he also appeared to have some choice words for DeRozan afterward.
To say there is no love lost might be an understatement. These two were very close during DeRozan’s time with the Raptors but their relationship has fallen apart now. The man to blame for that? Well, it is DeRozan.
Drake has been beefing with fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar for a while now. Earlier this year, Lamar released a Drake diss track titled “Not Like Us” and DeRozan appeared on stage with him during his first live performance. He also appeared in the music video that came out later and it was clear which side he was on.
DeRozan stated that he loved Drake, but Lamar was family, but that love appears to have gone now too. It’s a shame that these two are now at odds with each other, but it is what it is at this point. As for the game, the Raptors won 131-128 in overtime.
DeRozan had 33 points, three rebounds, four assists, and three steals in the contest but it wasn’t enough to get the win on his old stomping ground. The Kings have now dropped to 3-3 on the season while the Raptors have improved to 2-5.

DeMar DeRozan Will Have His Jersey Retired By The Raptors
Carter’s jersey was the first that the Raptors retired and I have no doubt that DeRozan will get that honor in a few years as well. The 35-year-old spent the first nine seasons of his career with the franchise and averaged 19.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game in that time.
DeRozan is the Raptors’ all-time leader for points (13,296), games (675), field goals, and free throws (4,716). He led the franchise to the Conference Finals for the first time in their history in 2016 and deserves to have his jersey retired.
DeRozan is likely to be the third player to get the honor, as I’d assume Kyle Lowry will be the second one. Perhaps by the time we get to DeRozan’s big day, he and Drake will have mended fences. I am not too optimistic about that happening, though.
