Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez criticized La Liga for failing to utilize goal-line technology following his team’s 3-2 Clasico loss on Sunday, which put Real Madrid close to securing the title.
The coach expressed his fury after Lamine Yamal’s shot, which Barcelona claimed crossed the line, was not awarded as a goal because officials couldn’t confirm it using VAR.
With the score tied at 1-1, Yamal deftly redirected a corner towards the goal, and Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin pushed the ball away, possibly after it had crossed the line.
“It’s shameful,” Xavi remarked, lamenting the absence of technology, such as that used in other top leagues like the Premier League, in La Liga.
“If we aspire to be the premier league globally, we must progress in this regard; technology must be integrated,” stated Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen in alignment with his coach’s sentiments.
“It’s disgraceful for football; I’m at a loss for words,” added the German international.
