Max Wober is poised to leave Leeds United this summer, but will not make a decision on his future until after Euro 2024.
Following Leeds’ relegation to the Championship, the 26-year-old signed on loan with Borussia Monchengladbach last summer and pleased the German club.
Gladbach now say they want to make Wober’s loan permanent, but they still have work to do to match Leeds’ asking price.
Foals sporting director Roland Virkus recently stated, “We are in talks with everyone involved, and of course, we want to keep Max with us.” However, the demands are exceedingly high.
Wober delays decision on future until after Euro 2024
Wober’s performance in the Bundesliga this season—25 appearances and over 2,000 minutes—has earned him a spot in Austria’s roster for the European Championships this summer.
The 23-year-old international is now fully focused on helping Austria live up to their reputation as a ‘dark horse’ in Germany this summer. In fact, the centre-back has told his agent not to contact him regarding potential offers until the tournament is over.
“I wanted to answer the club question before the Euros,” Wober told Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung.
“But that’s how it is now. “I’ve instructed my agent that he doesn’t have to contact me or tell me anything for the next four weeks.
“I want to play the European Championships right now. After that, we’ll see where things go.
Wober emphasized the importance of taking advantage of this summer’s international responsibilities, saying: “The Euros are a career highlight for me. My first international match and Champions League game were only surpassed by the European Championship.
“If I get to play, I want to enjoy it 100 per cent.”
