After two seasons with the UNC football team, Lejond Cavazos will conclude his college career in the Big Ten.
Cavazos declared on social media that he has committed to Michigan State. This will be Cavazos’ third stop, having started his career at Ohio State before joining the UNC football program.
Cavazos recorded 25 tackles and four passes defended during his two seasons with the UNC football team. At the end of the season, the San Antonio, Texas native struggled, allowing 10 receptions on 12 targets for 109 yards and missing three tackles in his final three games as a Tar Heel.
Given that he spent spring practice working with the one’s and twos, this is a significant loss for the UNC football team. Cavazos, a veteran in the secondary, was expected to play a significant part on the Tar Heels defense this season, but they will have to seek for other possibilities to fill the vacuum.
Cavazos’ collegiate path has been an unusual one, taking him from the Big Ten to the ACC and back to the Big Ten. He’ll hope to be a significant part of the Spartans secondary heading into his graduation season. The UNC football team will rely on some good players on the roster to help improve a secondary unit that has struggled in recent seasons.
