The latest Leicester City transfer news as Jamie Vardy’s future at the club remains up for discussion
Claudio Ranieri declines to comment on the rumors surrounding Jamie Vardy’s potential transfer.
After Jamie Vardy was sighted in Italy over the weekend, former Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri said he has no idea what the striker’s future holds at Leicester City. As things stand, Vardy will leave with the title of a club icon on June 30 when his current City contract expires. He would then be free to sign with whatever team he wants, as the 37-year-old has previously stated he isn’t prepared to call it quits.
He was present on Friday when Cesc Fabregas’s Northern Italian team Como 1907—managed by Dennis Wise, a former Chelsea player—won promotion from Serie B to Serie A in their season-ending match.
But even among his closest allies, it seems the Englishman is keeping his thoughts on a switch under wraps. After his team’s 5-1 loss to AC Milan, TV Dello Sport questioned Ranieri, who is currently head coach of Caglieri, on the future of the Foxes player.
“I’m not aware of that,” he answered truthfully. “No, I wasn’t called by him. He might not even have my Italian number on file. I’m not sure if Fabregas is considering him. However, I’m happy to see every one of my guys that competed with me in England for the championship.”
Vardy remarked, “Listen, I’m not ready to hang the boots up yet,” following Preston North End’s title match last month, so it’s unclear if he enjoys a new challenge or not. We’ll see what transpires. My legs feel good and I’m as fit as I’ve ever been.” He has made 494 appearances for the Foxes, scoring 190 goals and dishing out 66 assists. He has won the Community Shield, FA Cup, Premier League, and now the Championship title twice.
