Cambridge United has signed Glenn McConnell to a new three-year contract. The 19-year-old began his United career as an Under 9 and advanced through the Academy before signing his first professional deal in 2021.
McConnell had a good loan stay at St Albans City during his debut professional season, scoring five goals in 20 games.
McConnell made his Club debut last season away at Leyton Orient, and he went on to make seven First Team appearances in 2023/24.
He has since signed a new three-year contract with the intention of establishing himself as a regular in the United First Team.
“It was an easy decision for me to sign as I believe the Club is heading in a really good direction both on-and-off the pitch,” McConnell stated.
“I feel like I’m in a position to have an influence on the squad. I’m also delighted to work with the manager because his philosophy and style of play are similar to mine.
“This past season was a good season for me getting my first few appearances in the first team and although it didn’t end how I wanted, I have been working hard to get stronger and fitter so I can come back with a bang this summer.”
Garry Monk added, “We are delighted that Glenn has chosen to commit his future to Cambridge United for the next three years. We are all aligned in our belief that he has huge potential and that he is ready to contribute to the First Team in a meaningful way.
“I have been really impressed with the way in which Glenn has conducted himself in the time I have been at the Club and I am really looking forward to working with him over the next few years.”
