WNBA standout Caitlin Clark has at last addressed speculation surrounding a lucrative offer to join the newly established Unrivaled league. The Indiana Fever guard, coming off an extraordinary, record-shattering rookie season, is reportedly presented with a “Messi-like” financial deal positioning her among the league’s top earners.
However, the 22-year-old has refrained from committing to the 3v3 league, co-founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier. Fans remain uncertain about Clark’s involvement, following her cryptic, two-word response to inquiries. When questioned by IndyStar about her participation, Clark said, “We’ll see.” The Iowa alum further hinted that with the league’s launch set for January 17, 2025, she intends to delay her decision, adding, “I don’t know. Just taking it as it goes, and see if I want to play eventually.”
As of now, Unrivaled has confirmed 30 players, with the final roster of 36 anticipated by November 20. Training camp for participants is set to commence on January 2. An October report by Front Office Sports revealed that Clark had received a substantial monetary offer to join. With her Fever teammates Aliyah Boston and Lexie Hull already on board, Unrivaled President Alex Bazzell has affirmed that Clark has a standing invitation: “We’re always going to have a roster spot for Caitlin Clark. We’re not applying a full-court press. We’re letting her decompress from basketball. She knows we have a spot for her when she’s ready.”
The league has touted its promise of offering the highest average salary in U.S. women’s professional sports, with guaranteed six-figure earnings. A mid-season 2025 1v1 tournament is also set to feature, with the champion receiving a £192,000 prize. A broadcast partnership with TNT is already in place, and Clark’s participation would undoubtedly heighten media attention. Following her phenomenal WNBA debut season, she earned the Rookie of the Year title and a place on the All-Star team.
Despite this, Clark previously indicated that she would devote her off-season to refining her golf game. This month, she will debut on the LPGA Tour at Florida’s Pelican Golf Club in a Pro-Am event. The competition, ‘The Annika Driven,’ spearheaded by Swedish legend Annika Sorenstam, has been praised by Sorenstam as a great move, noting that Clark’s involvement is “awesome” for the sport.
