Caitlin Clark continues to make headlines as the 22-year-old rookie shattered yet another record.
On Wednesday, during the Indiana Fever’s 101-93 loss to the Dallas Wings, Clark set a new WNBA record by recording 19 assists in a single game.
The previous record of 18 assists was held by Courtney Vandersloot of the New York Liberty, set in August 2020 when she was with the Chicago Sky. Alongside her assists, Clark contributed 24 points and six rebounds, although it wasn’t enough to secure a win for the Fever, who now stand at 11-15 for the season.
Clark’s performance against the Wings was historic, as she either scored or assisted on 66 of the Fever’s points, surpassing Diana Taurasi’s record from 2006, according to ESPN. This game marked her third of the season with over 20 points and 10-plus assists.
Despite strong performances from her teammates, with Boston scoring a career-high 28 points and NaLyssa Smith adding 13 points and 12 rebounds, the Fever couldn’t clinch the victory. The game was tied at 93-93 late in the fourth quarter, but the Wings went on an 8-0 run to close out the match.
Arike Ogunbowale and Odyssey Sims led the Wings with 24 points each, improving their season record to 6-19.
This game marks the final WNBA matchup before a month-long break for the All-Star weekend and the Paris Olympics. Caitlin Clark is set to feature in the All-Star weekend. The Indiana Fever will return to action against the Phoenix Mercury on August 16, while the Dallas Wings will face the Connecticut Sun.
