The Indiana Fever have undergone a dramatic transformation, signaling their intent to rise as WNBA title contenders. With Stephanie White assuming head coaching duties and Amber Cox stepping in as general manager, the franchise has also announced the development of a state-of-the-art practice facility. However, the most impactful shift came with the acquisitions of WNBA champions DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard, two seasoned veterans who bring championship pedigree and leadership to a young but talented roster.
Caitlin Clark, the face of the Fever and a rising superstar in the league, was quick to endorse these pivotal additions. “They know what it takes to win, to reach the Finals, to secure championships,” Clark stated, emphasizing the significance of their experience. “It’s exactly what we needed in our locker room. But beyond being great basketball players, they’re exceptional leaders and individuals, and I know the front office prioritized that.” Clark remains the driving force behind Indiana’s resurgence, following a historic rookie campaign in which she shattered the WNBA’s single-season assist record, played in front of record-breaking crowds, and elevated the franchise back into national prominence by snapping a seven-year playoff drought.
With All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell and dominant forward Aliyah Boston returning, Clark is confident that the Fever can take a massive step forward in 2025. “This is the premier franchise in women’s sports, no matter the league,” Clark asserted. “People see the energy we generate, not just in Indiana but nationwide. The next few years are going to be incredible, and hopefully, we’ll bring home multiple championships.” The Fever’s primary offseason objective—injecting playoff experience into the roster—has now been largely fulfilled. Howard, a two-time All-Star and three-time WNBA champion, returns to the franchise that originally drafted her fifth overall in 2014. Meanwhile, Bonner, a six-time All-Star and two-time champion, is on the cusp of surpassing Tina Thompson for third place on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list.
Bonner and Clark, despite a heated playoff altercation last season, are eager to join forces. “It was just two competitors doing whatever it took to win,” Bonner remarked about their past clash. “But now, I’m excited to play alongside Caitlin. I think we’ll complement each other really well.” Their chemistry will be essential as Indiana finalizes its roster. In addition to Bonner and Howard, the Fever signed two-time champion Sydney Colson and acquired sharpshooter Sophie Cunningham from Phoenix in a blockbuster trade that saw Indiana part ways with starting forward NaLyssa Smith. Roster changes also included waiving former draft picks Grace Berger and Victaria Saxton while mutually parting ways with Katie Lou Samuelson.
Despite the flurry of moves, White, Cox, and President of Basketball Operations Kelly Krauskopf have yet to confirm if their roster overhaul is complete before the WNBA Draft in April. But regardless of any final adjustments, both Clark and Bonner firmly believe that this revamped Fever squad is built for championship contention. “A dynamic point guard makes the game easier, and playing alongside Kelsey and A.B. (Boston), it’s going to be effortless to score,” Bonner remarked. The Fever’s offseason revamp has generated immense excitement, and as they prepare for the upcoming season, the message is clear—Indiana is no longer just a playoff hopeful; they are a team with championship aspirations.
