Italy and Germany secured five berths each for the upcoming Champions League season, while England and France failed to qualify. This decision was finalized after Borussia Dortmund’s 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-final’s first leg, confirming Serie A’s previously secured additional spot for Italy.
These two leagues earned an extra position each due to their commendable performance in European competitions this season, aligning with the tournament’s expansion to 36 teams next season. UEFA’s coefficient rankings, which consider club results across the Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League, determined this allocation.
Despite Aston Villa’s potential victory in both legs of their Europa Conference League semi-final against Olympiakos and subsequent championship, England cannot surpass the allocated slots, thus retaining the standard four slots.
Italy and Germany could even secure six slots if Borussia Dortmund wins the Champions League but falls outside the Bundesliga’s top four, and if either Atalanta or Roma clinches the Europa League. Triumph in these tournaments ensures automatic qualification for the subsequent Champions League season.
