Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese have each enjoyed one of the most remarkable rookie seasons in WNBA history. Clark, the first overall selection in the 2024 WNBA Draft from Iowa, propelled the Fever to their inaugural postseason appearance since 2016, shattering numerous records along the way, including the highest number of assists in a single season and the most points scored by a rookie. Conversely, Reese, the seventh pick from LSU, also made her mark, establishing records such as the most rebounds in a season—though this was later surpassed by A’ja Wilson—and the highest number of consecutive double-doubles.
During the WNBA Finals between the New York Liberty and the Minnesota Lynx, Liberty star Breanna Stewart was prompted to choose between the two rookies in an interview with MARCA. The decision proved challenging for the two-time MVP. “It’s not an either-or situation with Angel or Caitlin,” Stewart remarked. “Both made significant contributions upon entering the league this year. Angel led the rebounding charts throughout the season, while Caitlin excelled in assists.”
Stewart further elaborated on their influence beyond the court, stating, “Their impact is not limited to gameplay; they also possess a remarkable presence off the court. The fan engagement they are fostering is thrilling to witness, and I am confident they will only continue to develop.”
As the Liberty prepare for Game 2 of the WNBA Finals against the Lynx on Sunday, September 13, at 3:00 p.m. ET, they find themselves trailing 1-0 after a narrow defeat in Game 1, ending with a score of 95-93.
