Longtime “Howard Stern Show” cohost Robin Quivers is opening up about her cancer battle and sporting her bald hairstyle.
Quivers, 71, appeared on SiriusXM’s “Stern Show Summer School” this week, talking to hosts Gary Dell’Abate and Rahsaan Rogers.
“Well, it’s my normal hairdo,” she said on the July 17 episode, referring to her bald head.
“I lost my hair in the second round of chemo I had to take in 2017. So I’ve been like this since then,” Quivers said.
The radio personality was diagnosed with stage 3C endometrial cancer in 2012, and she had a hysterectomy.
In 2013, she announced that she was in remission after 15 months of chemotherapy and radiation.
But, the cancer came back in 2016.
Quivers has said that she still gets immunotherapy infusions, but it’s not as invasive as her chemotherapy was in 2012.
“It’s never been a huge problem,” she told People in 2023. “When it’s shown some growth, then we have to manage that.”
She told the outlet, “That’s a very hard thing to do, to describe my health these days. When you’re in and out of treatment, you’re always recovering and trying to get back to where you were.”
She added, “I feel fine. It’s been 11 years of dealing with this — and I’m still here. I’m interested in everybody having a fuller life, more options and knowing what’s possible.”
She explained on “Stern Summer Show” that she only started wearing a wig for a specific reason.
“Back then there was no time to make decisions and I just started wearing wigs because I just didn’t know what to do. But in general, I don’t wear that wig anytime but on the show,” she said.
Quivers continued, “The only reason you don’t see my head like this is because I freeze in the wintertime, because all the time the heat goes out of your head, I’m very much aware of that now. So I have to cover my head in the wintertime.”
“Howard Stern Wrap-Up Show” host Rahsaan Rogers commented that Quivers’ 2023 photo shoot with People was the first time the public saw her bald. He asked if she had felt apprehensive about showing that.
“No, because I don’t wear a wig every day all the time,” Quivers explained.
She added that her blase attitude about it occasionally causes confusion to her staffers.
