The manager of the Blues feels that the decision about his future isn’t solely in the hands of Chelsea’s owners. He believes he’ll also play a part in determining where he’ll be next season.
Ahead of Chelsea’s upcoming match against Nottingham Forest, scheduled to be broadcasted live on Sky Sports this Saturday, Pochettino emphasized that he isn’t discontented in west London. However, he reiterated the importance of him and his coaching team having a discussion with the club’s leadership at the conclusion of the season.
Chelsea’s inaugural year with their ex-Tottenham manager, who arrived at the club last July, has been a blend of outcomes. However, their recent back-to-back wins against Spurs and West Ham have positioned them as contenders for a European spot, a prospect that seemed improbable for a significant portion of the season.
During his Friday press briefing, Pochettino remarked, “If we’re content, that’s great, but it’s not solely about the satisfaction of the owners… because you also need to consider our perspective, as perhaps we’re not content and may need to part ways.”
He added, “Leaving Chelsea wouldn’t be catastrophic. It wouldn’t be unprecedented for coaching staff to opt for a separation. Tomorrow, I might announce my departure. It’s a two-sided decision, not solely contingent on Chelsea’s or the owner’s satisfaction, or the sporting director’s for that matter.”
Pochettino elaborated, “Perhaps we’re dissatisfied because we arrived here with certain expectations, but in the end, reality didn’t align with them. I’m not implying I’m unhappy. If a split occurs, it’s not a major issue; it won’t signify the end of everything.”
