Before losing to UNCW, the Warhawks win two matches in the Sun Belt Beach Volleyball Championships.

The ULM beach volleyball team secured victories against (6) Southern Miss and (5) Mercer at the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Beach Volleyball Tournament in Huntsville, Alabama. However, their tournament journey concluded after being defeated by (2) UNCW.

 

In the first match on Friday against Southern Miss, the Warhawks and the Golden Eagles split the first four matches. Laura Dennis and Sadie McAda secured a point for USM by defeating Kaylie Beck and Tamsie Black 21-13, 21-16 in flight one. Kaitlyn Beck and Claire Williamson leveled the match 1-1 with a flight two victory over Sarah Murczek and Ola Chudzik, winning 21-16, 21-15. Madeline Marquez and Kaitlyn Nowak won in straight sets (21-16, 21-17) against Ashlyn Rough and Dylan Russell in flight four. Madison Cassidy and Valeria Siakidou Papakyriakou secured a 21-18, 21-18 victory in flight three over Eden Anderson and Kate Taylor. In the deciding match, Maggie Cox and Katie Felts rallied after trailing 14-12 in set three, ultimately clinching the win for the Warhawks with a 21-18, 13-21, 16-14 victory over Jessie Fairly and Carmen Delgado, giving ULM a 3-2 win.

 

Beck and Williamson dominated with a 21-17, 21-10 victory against Mercer’s second pair of Nicole O’Mara and Jordan Paddock, giving the Warhawks an early lead. Mercer bounced back with Reese Hood and Lexi Polychrones defeating Anderson and Taylor 21-19, 21-14 in flight three. Marquez and Nowak secured a 23-21, 21-17 win in flight four over Katy Corbett and Liv Diaz, marking Nowak’s 50th career victory. Cox and Felts sealed the match for the Warhawks once more in flight five with a 22-20, 21-16 win against Hollis Engel and Alyssa Scoggins. Beck and Black finished strong with a three-set victory, 21-10, 15-21, 15-10, over Sydney Benson and Kate Hardie.
UNCW got off to a strong start against ULM, securing a win in flight two as Maddy Folks and Charlotte Cronister defeated Beck and Williamson. In flight one, Gabby LaPata and Sadie Sharkey claimed victory over Beck and Black with a score of 21-15, 21-19, putting the Seahawks ahead 2-0. The match was clinched by the Seahawks with a 21-17, 21-12 win in flight three, with Ellie Bucci and Gracie Sistrunk defeating Anderson and Taylor. Cox and Felts continued their impressive performance, winning their third match of the day with a thrilling 29-27 first set and a 21-12 win in the second set. However, Marquez and Nowak narrowly lost their match to Sarah Thompson and Bri Haggerty, concluding the day’s play with a score of 21-17, 16-21, 15-12.
