Theo Bair of Motherwell is reportedly attracting interest from Charlton Athletic, and there are rumours swirling about what will happen to Scott Fraser.
Charlton Athletic are interested in Motherwell striker Theo Bair, while midfielder Scott Fraser is set for talks to determine his future.
Charlton are set for a busy transfer window under manager Nathan Jones.
The Addicks’ owners have already stated their intention to back the Welshman this summer.
Let’s take a look at a potential incoming and outgoing at Sparrows Lane that could get Charlton’s summer started on a positive note.
In: Theo Bair
Charlton are interested in signing Motherwell’s Canadian striker, Theo Bair, according to Richard Cawley.
The Addicks currently have four strikers contracted for next season after it was confirmed that Connor Wickham would not be having his short-term deal extended. Chuks Aneke and Miles Leaburn missed large parts of the 2023/24 season through injury, so it is not a huge surprise to see that Charlton are in the market for another forward option.
Richard Cawley reports that Charlton are interested in signing Theo Bair, the Canadian striker for Motherwell.
With Connor Wickham’s short-term contract not being extended, the Addicks now have four strikers signed for the upcoming campaign. Due to injuries, Chuks Aneke and Miles Leaburn missed a significant portion of the 2023–2024 season. As a result, it is not shocking that Charlton is looking to add another striker option.
Bair’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2025, and Charlton would have to pay a fee in order to transfer the striker to SE7. Bair would bolster the Addicks’ offensive options, which currently include Aneke, Leaburn, promising youngster Daniel Kanu, and League One golden boot winner Alfie May.
According to Andy Scott, technical director at Charlton, the Addicks must make sure they have a sufficient number of strikers available for the upcoming campaign.
Out: Scott Fraser
Scott Fraser, a Scottish midfielder, was on loan to Hearts for the second part of the season, away from SE7. According to the Edinburgh Evening News, Fraser, 29, is expected to return to Sparrows Lane for the commencement of the preseason. Fraser and his family ‘would love to move back north’ this summer.
There was hope for Fraser’s future with the team when he arrived at The Valley from Ipswich Town on deadline day in January 2022.
However, it now appears as though the on-loan Hearts man sees his future back in Scotland. Despite him failing to register a goal or an assist in the league for Hearts so far, manager Steven Naismith said that he would “make a decision at the end of the season” regarding Fraser’s future.
The former MK Dons player is expecting discussions over his future when he returns to south London in the summer, with his Charlton contract due to expire in 2025. Whether he returns to Tynecastle for another loan or on a permanent basis remains to be seen, but his sights seem to be set on a full-time return to his homeland.
The Scot has made 67 League One appearances while playing for The Valley under four permanent managers. Fraser’s best Charlton season occurred in 2022–2023 when he led the Addicks to a 10th-place finish in the third division with nine goals and five assists.
Fraser was loaned out in January after failing to contribute to a single goal in 16 appearances during the first half of this season at Charlton. Excerpts from his statement “Injury has been the biggest factor this season” may help to explain his challenging season both north and south of the border.
Charlton would have had a very successful start to the transfer window if they could sign Bair and let go of Fraser.
