The pair were both representing Team USA in Barcelona, but Henry claims Jordan ‘disrespected’ him when they met in the basketball team’s hotel. “During that time, I went to the hotel just because I wanted to see people that I knew,” Henry told Chip Brown of 247Sports. You would think in a perfect world that when somebody walks up on a group of people, they would just greet everybody, “Hey, guys. How you all doing? And his response to me was, ‘Who are you?’ And I was like, ‘Who the hell are you?’ And you know, I started to get a little bit angry, because I was not expecting that. “It was like a slap in the face. It’s like someone walking up and just slapping you. I was in shock. I was like this is Michael Jordan. And I’m angry, like, ‘Why? Why? And, I’m sure that that’s not the only time something like that has ever happened in this world, but it had been a long time since that happened to me, and I wasn’t having no parts of it.” However, Henry did say that Jordan apologised and made things right between the pair through VIP passes to the NBA All-Star game. “The thing about it, the one thing about the story that is not told, and I guess could be told here, is he apologised,” added Henry. “A lot of people don’t remember, but the All-Star game was coming up after that and it was in San Antonio. When that came through, he invited me to the All-Star game. ADVERT “He was having his birthday party during the All-Star game. So, his people contacted me and got me a parking pass and VIP. It was all fine and good. It all ended well. It just didn’t start off. No problem with Starks.” Speaking about Allen Iverson in particular, Jordan said: “He could beat me on the perimeter, but I could take him in the post. He’s a heck of a good player. He’s a young talent. He is gonna continue to get better once he learns how to play the game on a much higher scale. “Right now, he’s doing a lot on physical ability. He’s good, he’s quick. That’s a challenge for me to go out to him and his stature. He’s so quick and small. But it’s a challenge. But instead the Chicago Bulls legend decided to give away a year’s pay. Jordan first retired in 1993. The North Carolina native had just led the Bulls to a third successive NBA title, cementing his status as the best player on the planet. After the death of his father, he decided to step away from basketball and try his hand at baseball instead. His bat-swinging career in baseball’s minor leagues was short-lived. He returned to action with the Bulls in 1995 and, between 1996 and ’98, led the Chicago side to another three straight championships before again hanging up his signature sneakers. ADVERT The third – and final – time Jordan was coaxed out of retirement, he joined the Washington Wizards ahead of the 2001-02 NBA season. Jordan was set to earn million of dollars upon his return to NBA action, but instead he decided to give away his first year’s salary with the Wizards in response to a seismic tragedy of the time. “Jordan said he will donate his first year’s salary to the victims of the Sep. 11 terrorist attacks,” a 2001 Washington Post article read.
