Harry Smith, an AFC Wimbledon target, has departed Sutton United, the club has confirmed, as stated on their official website.
The striker left Sutton United after they were demoted from League Two to the National League. Omari Patrick, an attacker who was previously with Carlisle United and Bradford City, has also severed his relationship with them.

Smith, 28, sees his contract at Gander Green Lane officially expire at the end of next month and he will become available as a free agent. AFC Wimbledon are keen on snapping him up for nothing, according to a report by London News Online, along with other unnamed teams.

The U’s have said he has decided not to take up the option of an extension with them, as per their website, and he will be moving on for a new challenge somewhere else. The door has now swung open for other clubs to swoop in for him.

AFC Wimbledon target leaves Sutton United

Smith was signed by Sutton United in June of last year. In the previous season, he scored 14 goals in all competitions, with 11 of those coming in the league.

In addition to spending a loan period at Swindon Town to gain experience, he was a member of Millwall’s roster from 2016 to 2018 and scored six goals in 12 games for the Lions.
Since then, the Kent native has held permanent positions at Leyton Orient, Motherwell, Northampton Town, Macclesfield Town, and Northampton Town.

Smith contributed 15 goals in 55 games for the latter, and before Sutton United replaced him, he also had brief stints with Exeter City and Barnet.

What next for AFC Wimbledon target?

He is currently looking for a new club, as AFC Wimbledon may view him as someone to improve their attacking department ahead of the upcoming campaign.

This season, the Dons finished 10th on the table and fell five points short of making the playoffs.

Since then, Johnnie Jackson’s team has made use of the transfer window to acquire forward Matty Stevens from Forest Green Rovers.
