Auston Matthews’ 70th goal of the season, including playoffs, didn’t occur in the last two regular season games, but its timing couldn’t have been better for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Matthews seized a lengthy pass from Max Domi near the Boston Bruins’ blue line with under eight minutes left in the third period of Game 2. He outmuscled Charlie McAvoy, outplayed goaltender Linus Ullmark, and secured the victory for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Matthews showcased dominance throughout the game, logging over twenty-three minutes of ice time, firing eight shots on net, winning 70% of his faceoffs, scoring the game-winning goal, and contributing two assists. Additionally, his subtle shovel of a loose puck under Samsonov in the crease late in the third period helped maintain the Leafs’ lead.
The Leafs’ standout player, along with linemates Max Domi and Tyler Bertuzzi, led the team to victory, with Domi and Bertuzzi also delivering excellent performances.
Despite occasional struggles, the Leafs secured a crucial victory, avoiding a 2-0 series deficit. Their determination paid off, enabling them to seize home-ice advantage from the Bruins as the series returns to Toronto.
