Journalist Simon Phillips suggests that Chelsea could have the opportunity to recruit a top player if they appoint his current manager this summer. According to Phillips, there’s speculation that a player with an £86m release clause may follow their coach to whichever club he joins.
Mauricio Pochettino is currently facing significant scrutiny in his position at Stamford Bridge, with some fans advocating for a managerial change. Various names have been linked to a potential move to West London, with Ruben Amorim being prominently mentioned in recent reports. It’s anticipated that Amorim will depart at the end of the season, having made a positive impression as the head of Sporting Lisbon.
It was even reported that he has been immersing himself in Pochettino’s tactics lately, showing great admiration for the Premier League.
Should he join, there would be considerable interest in who he would target to suit his style of play at Stamford Bridge.
According to Phillips, one likely signing could be Viktor Gyokeres, who is currently excelling under him in Portugal.
Phillips stated: “Interestingly, Ruben Amorim, who is still strongly linked with a move to Chelsea and is eager for the job, mentioned last summer that the squad needed a striker and a central midfielder when discussing the role. I’m speculating a bit here, but it’s anticipated that Viktor Gyokeres will follow wherever Amorim goes next.”
Chelsea have previously shown interest in signing the Swedish international, especially as they seek to bolster their striker options.
Whether they would be willing to meet an £86m release clause remains uncertain, particularly given promising signs from Nicolas Jackson, indicating his potential role in the team in the coming years.
