Los Angeles Sparks rookie Cameron Brink recently shared a heartfelt message on social media after a devastating ACL injury that will sideline her for the rest of the WNBA season and the upcoming Paris Olympics.
Selected as the No. 2 pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, Brink had high hopes for her debut season with the Sparks and her participation in the U.S. 3×3 women’s basketball team. Unfortunately, she tore her ACL during a game against the Connecticut Sun, bringing her promising season to an abrupt halt.
Expressing her disbelief and determination on social media, Brink wrote, “You never think it will happen to you. Despite all the hard work, sometimes it does. This is hard to fathom but I know it will only make me stronger.” She acknowledged the emotional toll of the injury but vowed to persevere and return to the sport she loves.
Brink, a standout 6-foot-4 forward from Stanford, has tried to remain positive despite the setback. “I will not be derailed and I will continue to love this life. I’m not defined by basketball, but it is something that I love deeply and I will work every day to get back to it,” she stated. Emphasizing that this is not a farewell to basketball but a temporary pause, she thanked her supporters for their thoughts and prayers.
In her first season with the Sparks, Brink averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game, tying with A’ja Wilson for the second-most blocks in the WNBA. Her presence on the court will be greatly missed by her team and fans alike.
Despite this challenging turn of events, Brink’s resilience and optimistic outlook inspire many. Her journey to recovery will undoubtedly be watched closely, as she aims to come back stronger and continue her basketball career.
