Liverpool is reportedly close to announcing Feyenoord manager Arne Slot as the successor to Jurgen Klopp, potentially before the upcoming weekend. Klopp had previously declared his departure from the team at the end of the season, prompting Liverpool to commence the search for a new manager. Initially, Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso was a top contender, but he opted to remain with his current Bundesliga club for another season. Subsequently, Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim emerged as a strong candidate, but recent developments suggest he may not secure the Liverpool managerial position. In the past two days, Arne Slot from Feyenoord has emerged as the frontrunner to lead Liverpool into the 2024-25 season.
Slot began his first full-time managerial role in the summer of 2019, transitioning from his position as an assistant to assume control at AZ Alkmaar. During his tenure, which lasted approximately 18 months, the 45-year-old was dismissed in December 2020 due to purported communication with Feyenoord regarding their managerial vacancy. Following his appointment as Feyenoord boss in the summer of 2021, Slot led the club to the final of the Europa Conference League in his inaugural season. Subsequently, he guided the Dutch powerhouse to victory in the 2022-23 Eredivisie, ending Feyenoord’s six-year drought for a league title. Most recently, Slot secured his second significant trophy as a manager when Feyenoord emerged victorious with a 1-0 win in the KNVB Beker final against NEC last Sunday.
