Everton Academy graduate Callum Connolly has made a move to Stockport County after three years at Blackpool. Connolly, who spent eight years in Everton’s Academy, holds the record for the most loan spells during his time with the club. Despite a promising start, his progress stalled with the Under-21s and Under-23s, leading to just one senior appearance.
Connolly’s only senior appearance came in April 2016 when he was a second-half substitute for Seamus Coleman in a Premier League match against Southampton. Despite being capped by England at various youth levels, this remained his sole outing for Everton. Over the next five seasons, Connolly was loaned out to several clubs, including Barnsley, Wigan Athletic, Ipswich Town, Bolton Wanderers, Lincoln City, and Fleetwood Town.
In 2021, Connolly left Everton and signed with Blackpool, where he made 108 appearances over three years. He departed as a free agent in June 2024, paving the way for his next chapter with Stockport County. Stockport manager Dave Challinor expressed his enthusiasm for Connolly’s versatility and experience, noting that he can play in various positions across the defense and midfield.
Challinor highlighted Connolly’s adaptability and potential impact on the squad, stating, “To sign someone of Callum’s character, versatility, and experience is a brilliant coup for the club. He can play anywhere across the backline or as a midfielder, making him a manager’s dream. He’s eager for a fresh start and motivated to regain his best form.”
Connolly joins Stockport at an opportune time, bringing a wealth of experience and a hunger to prove himself. His ability to play multiple positions and his professional attitude make him a valuable addition as the team faces new challenges ahead.
