Essendon AFL players Zach Merrett and Jayden Laverde have turned their dream into reality with the launch of their new streetwear brand, DRYP (pronounced “drip”). This unisex fashion label focuses on high-quality, versatile clothing that transcends seasonal trends, aiming to offer elevated essentials designed to last a lifetime. DRYP embodies the values of inclusivity and timelessness, appealing to both fashion enthusiasts and AFL fans.
The idea for DRYP began about 12 to 14 months ago, when Merrett and Laverde started discussing their future beyond football. They saw an opportunity to channel their interest in fashion into a meaningful venture. “We wanted to create something sustainable and enjoyable, something we’re passionate about outside of footy,” Merrett shared. The duo has been dedicated to building a brand that reflects their personal style and meets high standards of quality.
Laverde emphasized their commitment to creating garments that everyone can appreciate. “Our vision with DRYP is to craft universal pieces that are accessible to all. We’ve put in countless hours perfecting each item to ensure they meet our standards,” he explained. The first collection features eight meticulously designed pieces, including hoodies, crew jumpers, and tees in various colorways, all produced in limited quantities to maintain exclusivity.
Both players see DRYP as more than just a clothing line; it’s a platform to make a lasting impact in the fashion world. “It’s about more than just making clothes we love; it’s about building something enduring,” Merrett stated. For Laverde, DRYP represents a new challenge and a chance to explore different skills outside their football careers. “AFL is demanding and unpredictable, so it’s important for us to think about life beyond football,” Laverde noted.
Looking ahead, DRYP’s second collection is set to release later this year, promising to build on the foundation laid by the inaugural drop. As Merrett and Laverde continue to juggle their sporting careers with entrepreneurial pursuits, DRYP stands as a testament to their creativity, vision, and dedication to quality. The Essendon duo is looking forward to seeing both AFL fans and fashion-forward individuals embrace their brand.
