Peterborough United has signed young winger Joel Odei-Larbi to a short-term professional contract after a challenging 2023-2024 season, which saw him struggling with injuries that affected his progress. The 18-year-old is eager to take this opportunity to prove his potential and aims to start the pre-season on a high note, free from injuries.
Expressing his gratitude, Odei-Larbi stated, “I want to extend a big thank you to the coaches and everyone at the club for their faith in me. I am determined to repay that trust. Last season was tough due to injuries, so I am extremely grateful for this chance to continue.”
Dan Robinson, the Academy Manager, acknowledged Odei-Larbi’s struggles with injuries over the past three seasons, many of which were related to his growth. “Joel has been really unfortunate with a number of injuries over the last three seasons, some of them growing related, he has grown in stature and that can happen at different times for players,” Robinson said. He added that they are excited to see Odei-Larbi’s progress during pre-season and that he will have opportunities to play in various matches.
Robinson further noted that Odei-Larbi has been dedicated to his training during the off-season, ensuring he is in good shape for the upcoming pre-season. “He has been in training on a weekly-basis during the off-season to get himself in good shape. He is a player that fits our mould of what we are looking for in the attacking positions and we hope he grabs the opportunity he has been given,” Robinson added.
With this contract, Peterborough United demonstrates its commitment to nurturing young talent and providing them with the necessary support to overcome challenges and succeed. Odei-Larbi’s journey will be closely watched by the club and its supporters as he aims to make a significant impact in the coming season.
