On Tuesday, April 15, Ian Rapoport reported that the Miami Dolphins were planning on exploring trade options with Jalen Ramsey. A couple of hours later, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier breaks the silence on the future of Ramsey on the Dolphins.
According to a press conference from the Miami Dolphins, Grier broke the silence on the Dolphins rumors surrounding Ramsey. Grier said, “After a couple of weeks of discussions … we decided it was probably in the best interest of all parties to move forward (separately).”.
While Grier explained why the Dolphins decided to part ways with their All-Pro cornerback, he is keeping what went into making the decision final behind closed doors.
Ramsey and the Dolphins are seemingly parting ways, and it wasn’t at the request of a trade from Ramsey. Grier stated that Ramsey never requested a trade, and that it was due to internal discussions that Ramsey is now on the trade block.
The news came as a surprise, as the Dolphins are in a win-now mode with Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback and multiple other aging veterans on big-money deals. Moving Ramsey would cost the Dolphins cap space, and would likely not return a first or second round draft pick.
But, the Dolphins after internal discussions have decided to move on from Ramsey after just two seasons. They would be moving off Ramsey a year after he signed an, at the time, record-setting deal for cornerbacks.
Grier stated that the Dolphins have already had conversations with other teams, and that the Dolphins are actively exploring trades. He also mentioned that the Dolphins could move Ramsey before, or during the draft. But, the two sides plan to go separate ways after just two seasons.
Ramsey is coming off a solid 2024 season, where he had two interceptions, 11 pass breakups, and allowed a passer rating of 83.2. The 30 year old still has value, and will likely find a new home soon.
On the same day that the Dolphins were exploring a trade of Ramsey, Grier came forward with some background for the deal. Ramsey didn’t ask for a trade, nor did he ask for more money. But the Dolphins came to a decision internally, and now the former two-time All-Pro
