The cause of Liam Payne’s death has been confirmed, days before his body was returned to the UK for his funeral. The 31-year-old singer tragically died after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Police, firefighters, and ambulances were seen outside the hotel following the incident, with reports suggesting Payne had been acting aggressively, possibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
An autopsy revealed the cause of death was “polytrauma,” along with severe internal and external bleeding from the fall. The Argentine National Prosecutor’s office stated that Payne’s injuries, including 25 trauma-related marks consistent with a fall from height, were fatal, and his brain and skull injuries were sufficient to cause death. The autopsy also suggested Payne may have been unconscious or semi-conscious before the fall. Additional tests showed he had a combination of drugs in his system, including pink cocaine, methamphetamine, MDMA, ketamine, and other substances.
Following the incident, Buenos Aires police raided the hotel where Payne had been staying, seizing computer hard drives and other evidence as part of the investigation. Although there has been no official funeral announcement yet, it is expected that Liam’s family will share details on how fans can honor his legacy as a former member of One Direction.
His body was returned to the UK on a British Airways flight on November 7, accompanied by his father and a former security guard, where it arrived at Heathrow A
