The Milwaukee Bucks have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins as they explore roster upgrades this offseason. With the Bucks looking to bounce back from a disappointing playoff exit, adding a versatile wing like Wiggins could provide much-needed depth, defense, and scoring alongside their superstar duo of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard.
Wiggins, a former No. 1 overall pick and 2022 NBA champion, endured an inconsistent 2024–25 season with Golden State. He dealt with injuries and personal issues that limited his impact, and his offensive production dipped compared to his peak during the Warriors’ most recent title run. Still, Wiggins remains one of the league’s more talented two-way wings, capable of guarding multiple positions and contributing as a secondary scorer. His ability to play both on and off the ball makes him a valuable fit in a variety of schemes.
Milwaukee’s interest in Wiggins stems from its need to retool the roster around Antetokounmpo and Lillard, particularly on the defensive end. The Bucks struggled to defend opposing wings throughout the season, especially after trading away Jrue Holiday and losing key defenders like Wesley Matthews and Jevon Carter. Khris Middleton, while still effective, has shown signs of decline, and the team has lacked a reliable, athletic wing who can take on tough defensive assignments while spacing the floor.
Wiggins could help fill that void. At 6’7” with a 7-foot wingspan, he has the physical tools to match up with the NBA’s elite scorers. Offensively, he provides midrange shot creation, transition scoring, and three-point shooting, although his efficiency has fluctuated year to year. A change of scenery and a clearly defined role alongside two stars in Milwaukee could help him rediscover the form that made him a key contributor to Golden State’s 2022 championship team.
From a financial standpoint, any trade for Wiggins would be complex. He is owed over $26 million for the 2025–26 season, with multiple years left on his contract. The Bucks are already over the salary cap and face second-apron restrictions under the NBA’s new collective bargaining agreement. Matching salaries and making the math work could require parting ways with significant pieces, such as Bobby Portis, Pat Connaughton, or even draft compensation.
The Warriors, for their part, are believed to be open to moving Wiggins as they explore ways to retool their own roster and get under the luxury tax. After missing the playoffs and signaling a desire to shake things up, Golden State is looking to build around Stephen Curry with more consistent and younger contributors. A trade with Milwaukee could offer the Warriors valuable role players and future flexibility.
The Bucks’ front office, led by general manager Jon Horst, has shown a willingness to make bold moves to stay in contention. Acquiring Wiggins would be a continuation of that aggressive strategy, aimed at surrounding Antetokounmpo with the right mix of talent to compete for another title before his contract expires.
