Former Eastern Michigan University golfers Michael Blair and Cam Kellett recently participated in the RBC Canadian Open held at Hamilton Golf and Country Club. Both players displayed commendable skill but unfortunately did not advance past the second day’s cut. Kellett ended with a score of two-over 142, and Blair finished with a 143. The cutoff for advancing was set at even-par.
This year’s RBC Canadian Open featured a notable presence of 28 Canadian golfers, each hoping to build on the country’s golfing achievements, notably Nick Taylor’s dramatic playoff win over Tommy Fleetwood last year.
Blair and Kellett secured their spots in the prestigious tournament through impressive performances in their respective qualifiers. Blair earned his place by shooting a two-under 68 at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley, while Kellett made a remarkable mark by setting a new course record with a six-under 64 at Tarandowah Golfers Club.
Although they didn’t make it to the final rounds, their participation in such a high-caliber event highlights the strength and potential of Eastern Michigan University’s golf program. Both players have proven their abilities on significant stages, underscoring the high level of training and competition at EMU.
Coverage of the tournament continued over the weekend, with broadcasts on the Golf Channel and CBS, allowing fans to follow the action closely. Despite the early exit, Blair and Kellett’s efforts were a testament to their hard work and dedication to the sport.
