Netflix Announces Slipknot Documentary that…
Behind the Masks”
In an exciting announcement for metal fans worldwide, Netflix has officially confirmed the release of “Behind the Masks: The Slipknot Story,” a deep-dive documentary into one of the most influential and enigmatic metal bands of the 21st century. The film is set to premiere on December 10, 2024.
Directed by acclaimed music documentarian Sam Dunn (Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey), the documentary will explore Slipknot’s meteoric rise from the underground metal scene of Des Moines, Iowa, to their global domination as one of the most successful and theatrical metal bands in history. Featuring never-before-seen footage, candid interviews with band members (past and present), and insights from producers, music critics, and fans, “Behind the Masks” promises to pull back the curtain on the band’s creative process, their struggles with fame, and the personal stories behind the masks.
Netflix has hinted that the documentary will also cover the darker side of Slipknot’s journey, including the tragic loss of bassist Paul Gray in 2010, tensions within the group, and the intense physical and mental toll of touring in one of the world’s most chaotic live acts. Fans can expect exclusive backstage moments and rare live performances, chronicling Slipknot’s evolution over more than two decades.
