Fabio Cannavaro, the World Cup champion from Italy, has secured his inaugural coaching position in Serie A, the same league where he clinched two victories as a player with Juventus.
Cannavaro, dismissed by Benevento in February 2023, has been absent from the coaching scene for more than a year. However, he is poised to make a comeback following his appointment as the manager of Udinese on Monday.
Udinese currently find themselves teetering just above the Serie A relegation zone in 17th place, tied on points with Frosinone below them. Following the dismissal of fellow Italian manager Gabriele Cioffi this week, the club has turned to Cannavaro in hopes of a turnaround.
The 50-year-old manager will make his debut in charge of Udinese in their upcoming match against Bologna on Sunday. Following that, he will lead his team against his childhood club Napoli the following weekend.
Cannavaro, hailed as one of the greatest talents to emerge from Napoli’s academy, is widely celebrated as one of Italy’s finest defenders of all time.
