Newcastle United is one of numerous clubs associated with the 6’6″ international goalkeeper.
Newcastle United are tracking Giorgi Mamardashvili, with Valencia preparing to lose the goalkeeper this summer.
The 6ft 6in Georgian, who has preserved 13 clean sheets in 37 La Liga games this season, has been closely monitored by the Magpies, and a deal is said to be on the cards. Indeed, changes are expected in United’s goalkeeping department in the coming months.
Loris Karius’ contract will expire at the end of next month, and Martin Dubravka’s future is uncertain as he enters the final year of his term.
According to the Times, Mamardashvili might be available for roughly £35 million. It is anticipated that he would give direct competition for Pope and, at the age of 23, be considered as a long-term replacement for the England shotstopper, who will become 33 next year.
Atletico Madrid is also interested in Mamardashvili, in addition to Newcastle.
Interestingly, Valencia has already moved to replace Mamardashvili. According to trade specialist Fabrizio Romano, Stole Dimitrievski will join the Mestalla club from Rayo Vallecano after undergoing medical exams and signing a four-year contract.
Romano wrote on X: “Understand that Macedonian GK has already completed medical tests as a new Valencia player; everything is done.”
The contract will be active for the following four years, until June 2028. Mamardashvili is set to make his 100th appearance for Valencia when they host Celta Vigo on the last day of the La Liga season on Sunday.
