The Smile, the rock supergroup featuring Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Tom Skinner, has surprised fans by releasing two new songs on a limited edition 12-inch vinyl. The tracks, titled “Don’t Get Me Started” and “The Slip,” were initially released exclusively on vinyl, with digital releases now being rolled out. This unexpected drop follows the release of their second studio album, *Wall of Eyes*, which debuted earlier this year in January.
“Don’t Get Me Started” was previewed during The Smile’s UK tour in March and has now been accompanied by a video directed by Weirdcore, known for its visually striking and eerie CGI elements. This song continues the band’s exploration of electronic and rock elements, reflecting the influences of Yorke and Greenwood’s work with Radiohead.
“The Slip,” the B-side of the vinyl, introduces a new sound for the band, featuring a moody, bossa nova-inspired intro before transitioning into an electric guitar-driven piece. This track had not been previously performed, making it a fresh addition to The Smile’s growing discography.
The release of these new songs comes after a challenging period for the band. They were forced to cancel their European tour last month due to Jonny Greenwood’s emergency hospital treatment. Despite these setbacks, the band’s commitment to releasing new music underscores their dedication to their fans and their craft.
Fans can now listen to “Don’t Get Me Started” across major streaming platforms, while “The Slip” remains exclusive to the vinyl for the time being. The Smile’s ability to blend surprise releases with their signature sound continues to captivate audiences, keeping their music fresh and engaging.
