Kornel Szucs, a defender, joined Plymouth Argyle as their sixth summer addition after leaving top-tier Hungarian club Kecskemeti.
For an undisclosed sum, the Pilgrims acquired 22-year-old Szucs, who has made three appearances for Hungary’s under-21 national team. Following Saturday’s 1-0 preseason victory away to MK Dons, head coach Wayne Rooney told Plymouth Live that the adaptable defender was nearing completion of a transfer.
Kecskemeti, which Szucs joined last summer, finished sixth out of 12 teams in the Hungarian top division (NB1) in 2023–24 with Szucs playing in 28 games and scoring two goals.”The acquisition of Kornel is further evidence of our recruitment process reaching far and wide to attract the best players we possibly can,” stated Neil Dewsnip, director of football at Argyle.Kornel will do that. Our staff is quite good at spotting guys who we believe can improve our present roster. Although he is now a decent player, we believe he has room to improve. I’m glad he could come along. After signings of Muhamed Tijani, Ibrahim Cissoko, Victor Palsson, Darko Gyabi, Nathanael Ogbeta, and Darko Gyabi, Szucs can play centre back, right back, or wing back.”I am really happy that we were able to bring Kornel on board,” Rooney stated. He can play multiple defensive positions and is a very gifted young player.”In addition to his versatility, he is incredibly athletic, at ease on the ball, and a good fit for the style of play we want to employ. I am eager to witness his performance for us.”
