After a dismal start to the previous season under Xisco Munoz, the Owls appeared doomed to return to League One right away. However, they secured safety after a stunning turnaround under Danny Rohl, finishing 20th in the standings.Rohl’s long-term contract signing in May gave Wednesday a significant lift, and the German hasn’t spent any time in starting to reassemble his team.James Beadle, Ben Hamer, Yan Valery, Max Lowe, Svante Ingelsson, Nathaniel Chalobah, Olaf Kobacki, Jamal Lowe, and Charlie McNeill are the nine new players the Owls have added to their roster thus far this summer.Liam Palmer, Dominic Iorfa, Di’Shon Bernard, Barry Bannan, and Josh Windass have all signed new contracts; however, Ciaran Brennan, Reece James, George Byers, Tyreeq Bakinson, Juan Delgado, and Lee Gregory have all been released; Cameron Dawson and Will Vaulks have left after turning down an extension offer. Before the transfer market closes on Wednesday, there will probably be a lot more arrivals and departures. Keeper Pierce Charles is one player Rohl may consider sending out on loan. The recent call-up of the 19-year-old to the senior squad of Northern Ireland is evidence of his enormous potential. He has impressed for the Owls throughout the preseason, making many standout saves in the team’s encounter against Werder Bremen last month.Since Charles re-signed with Hillsborough in May, Wednesday is not at risk of losing him to larger teams. However, because Beadle and Hamer will be tough competitors for playing time this season, Charles may leave on loan. The Star reports that Crawley Town, a recently promoted League One team, has expressed interest in taking Charles on a loan; however, the Owls might be hesitant to send him to the Broadfield Stadium.Playing football on a regular basis in League One would be extremely good for Charles’ development, as he is unlikely to get many first team opportunities at Wednesday this season. However, there are questions over whether Crawley is the appropriate move for Charles.Charles, who is renowned for his skill with the ball at his feet, would fit right in with manager Scott Lindsey’s possession-based style of play. Lindsey has done an incredible job leading the Red Devils, who were predicted by many to be relegated at the beginning of the season to promotion from League Two via the play-offs.With only a few players from the promotion-winning squad surviving, Crawley has lost a number of their best players this summer, and the club may face difficult times in the upcoming season in the third division.
