Cole Palmer has made it onto the shortlist for the Premier League’s EA Sports Player and Hublot Young Player of the Season Awards. Since joining from Manchester City in September, he’s had an exceptional debut year with Chelsea, scoring 21 league goals and assisting nine times. If he wins, Palmer would be the first Chelsea player since N’Golo Kante in 2016/17 to claim the Player of the Season title. Previous winners from Chelsea include Frank Lampard and Eden Hazard.
palmer has emerged as one of the standout signings of the season, excelling as our top scorer and delivering exceptional performances under Mauricio Pochettino’s management. This season has also marked his international debut with the senior England team in November. Prior to his recent 22nd birthday, he achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming only the third player in Premier League history to achieve over 30 goal involvements in a single season at the age of 21 or younger. Notable moments from Palmer’s impressive campaign include his four-goal display against Everton in our 6-0 victory, where he secured the earliest ‘perfect’ Premier League hat-trick on record.
The forward also scored a hat-trick in our thrilling 4-3 stoppage time victory against Manchester United last month and netted a last-minute equalizer against his former team Manchester City in a thrilling 4-4 draw back in November.
Among those vying for the Player of the Season title alongside Palmer are Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Erling Haaland, Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, Arsenal’s Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, and Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.
Competing against Palmer for the Young Player award are Foden and Haaland, Isak, Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and William Saliba, and Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie.
The winners of both awards will be revealed on Saturday, May 18, with the Young Player announced at 10 am (UK time) and the Player of the Year at 11 am.
