Alan Nixon has responded to suggestions that Hull City want to hire Sheffield Wednesday coach Danny Rohl as their new manager.
Danny Rohl became a hero at Sheffield Wednesday earlier this month, leading the team to safety on the penultimate day.
A six-game unbeaten streak at the close of the season kept them three points above the relegation zone, despite starting his management tenure seven points down.
Sheffield Wednesday fans are now desperate to keep the head coach, and staying up has surely given them a significant boost.
Concerns were raised when Sunderland expressed interest in recent months, but they do not appear to have progressed any further after losing to the Owls on the final day of the season.
How likely are Hull City to snap up Danny Rohl?
Wednesday did face renewed attention from Hull City, with sources saying the Yorkshire club was a huge fan of Rohl following the sacking of Liam Rosenior.
The prospect of contending for promotion next season, as well as a potentially large transfer budget, may have tempted the German. However, journalist Alan Nixon has recently downplayed reports of a relocation to Hull.
When asked about Rohl’s future, Nixon responded: “He’s not going to Hull.”
His comments come after The Star stated that any club interested in Rohl would have to pay roughly £15 million to sign him and his staff.
The fee makes it highly unlikely that Championship clubs would be able to entice the 35-year-old away, and rumors suggest that Hull have already switched their focus to former Hamburg coach Tim Walter.
Rohl’s chances of staying at Sheffield Wednesday are looking bright
With Sunderland rumored to be interested in out-of-work Will Still, Wednesday could be on course to keep their star player.
While there will undoubtedly be interest elsewhere, Rohl’s relationship with the fans and success in keeping them in the second division appear to be a good indication that he will continue at Hillsborough for at least another year.
Given the coach’s position on Wednesday, Dejphon Chansiri is expected to open his wallet to bankroll fresh transfers, and fans may expect a bright second season under the German.
A complete pre-season should also help, and a successful January window implies Rohl understands exactly what he needs to do to enhance this squad.
