Three individuals have been charged in connection with Liam Payne’s death, following an investigation by Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office. Payne, the former One Direction member, died on October 16 after falling from a third-floor balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires. Authorities found multiple substances in his system at the time of his death, prompting the charges of “abandonment of a person followed by death” and “supply and facilitation of narcotics” against the three individuals.
One of those charged was Payne’s regular companion during his stay in Buenos Aires, who is accused of neglecting him. A hotel worker who allegedly supplied Payne with cocaine and a separate drug supplier who provided him with narcotics two days before his death were also charged.
Prior to the incident, hotel staff had called the police, concerned about Payne’s drug and alcohol use, and fearing he might harm himself. A toxicology report revealed that Payne had traces of alcohol, cocaine, prescription antidepressants, and “pink cocaine” in his system at the time of death. The autopsy concluded that Payne died from multiple trauma caused by the fall and ruled out self-harm or any third-party involvement.
Payne’s former bandmates from One Direction expressed their devastation over his passing, honoring his memory in a joint statement. They described him as a beloved friend and bandmate, sharing their grief and offering condolences to his family, friends, and
fans.
