Veteran NHL forward Patrick Kane and the Detroit Red Wings appear to be on a path toward continuing their partnership, according to a prominent NHL insider. With offseason discussions already underway across the league, the expectation is growing that Kane and the Red Wings will work out a new contract to keep the future Hall of Famer in Detroit for at least another season.
Kane, who joined the Red Wings during the 2023–24 campaign following his recovery from hip surgery, made an immediate impact both on and off the ice. Despite joining the team midseason and needing time to regain full form, the 35-year-old forward recorded 47 points (20 goals, 27 assists) in just 50 games, demonstrating that he still possesses elite playmaking ability and veteran savvy.
Insider reports suggest that both sides have mutual interest in extending the relationship. Kane enjoyed his time in Detroit and praised the team’s culture, coaching staff, and the energy of the fan base. For the Red Wings, Kane provided a much-needed boost to their offense and served as a veteran presence in a young locker room that is being groomed for long-term success.
“He fit in seamlessly,” said one team executive. “He brings championship experience, incredible vision, and a calm under pressure that you can’t teach. There’s definitely a desire on both sides to keep things going.”
One of the key factors in the potential new deal is the Red Wings’ trajectory. After years of rebuilding, Detroit showed real progress last season, narrowly missing the playoffs but developing a core that includes Dylan Larkin, Moritz Seider, Lucas Raymond, and Alex DeBrincat—Kane’s former teammate in Chicago. The chemistry between DeBrincat and Kane was evident once again in Detroit
