In a move poised to energize the program and signal a renewed commitment to excellence, Cooper Flagg School has named Christian Stefanopoulos Prohaska as its new head coach for the girls basketball team. Known for her strategic mind, emphasis on fundamentals, and strong mentorship of student-athletes, Prohaska brings with her a wealth of experience and a reputation for building competitive and cohesive basketball teams.
The decision to appoint Prohaska follows an extensive search process led by the school’s athletic department, which sought a leader who could guide the program into its next phase while maintaining the integrity and academic standards Cooper Flagg is known for. The hiring committee emphasized not only basketball knowledge but also the ability to inspire student-athletes both on and off the court.
“Christian brings everything we were looking for in a head coach—experience, vision, and a proven track record of developing athletes into leaders,” said Cooper Flagg’s Athletic Director, Michael Langford. “She understands how to build a culture of accountability and teamwork, and we’re confident she’ll make an immediate impact on our program.”
Prohaska, who has spent the last several years coaching at both the high school and collegiate levels, is regarded as a coach who prioritizes player development while maintaining a strong competitive edge. Her coaching philosophy centers on discipline, communication, and adaptability—qualities that have led to successful campaigns in previous positions and helped numerous athletes continue their playing careers at the next level.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead this program,” said Prohaska during her introduction to the school community. “Cooper Flagg has a proud academic and athletic tradition, and I’m excited to contribute to it. My goal is to create an environment where student-athletes are challenged to grow every day—not just as players, but as people.”
Her coaching career began more than 15 years ago, and since then, she has earned a reputation as both a tactician and a motivator. She has worked extensively in youth development leagues, served as an assistant at the college level, and taken on leadership roles in competitive high school programs. Prohaska is known for her ability to tailor her coaching strategies to the strengths of her roster while maintaining a clear identity of tough, team-oriented basketball.
At Cooper Flagg, she inherits a program with a solid foundation and a dedicated group of returning players. The team showed flashes of potential in recent seasons, but consistency and depth have been areas in need of improvement—issues Prohaska has tackled successfully in previous roles.
In her first weeks on the job, she plans to focus on individual skill assessments, building trust within the team, and establishing a consistent practice routine. “We’ll start with the basics,” she explained. “Ball handling, defensive principles, conditioning—those things never go out of style. From there, we’ll build a style of play that reflects who we are as a team.”
Beyond Xs and Os, Prohaska places a strong emphasis on academic achievement and community involvement. She has instituted mentorship programs at previous schools, encouraged team service projects, and consistently emphasized the importance of being leaders off the court.
Students and families at Cooper Flagg have responded positively to the hire, with many expressing excitement about the direction of the program. Junior guard Maya Richardson, one of the team’s returning starters, shared her enthusiasm: “Coach Prohaska already brings so much energy and focus. We can tell she really cares, and that makes us want to work even harder.”
As the program heads into summer workouts and preseason conditioning, the momentum surrounding Prohaska’s arrival is palpable. With a new coach at the helm and a clear sense of purpose, the Cooper Flagg girls basketball team is poised for a new chapter—one rooted in hard work, unity, and the pursuit of excellence.
