Alex Chivers Alex Chivers Michael Jordan’s competitive mindset is one of the reasons he is regarded by many as basketball’s GOAT. Jordan won six NBA titles and five MVP awards as part of a glittering career at the top level. But his fire to succeed and drive consistently higher standards led to fall outs too, including with his teammates. ADVERT While younger fans got to witness that competitive edge in the Netflix series ‘The Last Dance’, WWE legend Mark Henry had his own disagreement with Jordan back at the 1992 Olympics. The pair were both representing Team USA in Barcelona, but Henry claims Jordan ‘disrespected’ him when they met in the basketball team’s hotel. “During that time, I went to the hotel just because I wanted to see people that I knew,” Henry told Chip Brown of 247Sports. ADVERT “[Charles] Barkley being one of those people, and David Robinson and Karl Malone. You would think in a perfect world that when somebody walks up on a group of people, they would just greet everybody, “Hey, guys. How you all doing? What’s going on?” and go from there. “Well, when Michael walked up, that wasn’t the case. I guess I seemed out of place. And his response to me was, ‘Who are you?’ And I was like, ‘Who the hell are you?’ And you know, I started to get a little bit angry, because I was not expecting that. “It was like a slap in the face. It’s like someone walking up and just slapping you. I was in shock. I was like this is Michael Jordan. And I’m angry, like, ‘Why? Why? What the hell?’ Michael Jordan played the bulk of his NBA career with the Chicago Bulls. ( Getty) ADVERT “He backed off. ‘Whoa, whoa, wait a minute. My bad. I didn’t want to come across,’ but he did. And, I’m sure that that’s not the only time something like that has ever happened in this world, but it had been a long time since that happened to me, and I wasn’t having no parts of it.” However, Henry did say that Jordan apologised and made things right between the pair through VIP passes to the NBA All-Star game. “The thing about it, the one thing about the story that is not told, and I guess could be told here, is he apologised,” added Henry. “A lot of people don’t remember, but the All-Star game was coming up after that and it was in San Antonio. When that came through, he invited me to the All-Star game. ADVERT “He was having his birthday party during the All-Star game. So, his people contacted me and got me a parking pass and VIP. Marcus Chan Marcus Chan NBA great Michael Jordan did not hesitate when naming the four players who could potentially get the better of him in a 1 vs 1 match. Over the years, Jordan has often been regarded as one of the greatest of all time in the world of basketball. Small guys. “[Allen] Iverson, Damon Stoudamire, Rod Strickland. Those little guards like that, it’s tough for me. Muggsy [Bogues]. [John] Starks? He’s a young talent. He is gonna continue to get better once he learns how to play the game on a much higher scale. “Right now, he’s doing a lot on physical ability. He’s good, he’s quick. Ryan Baldi Ryan Baldi As a six-time NBA champion, a five-time MVP and arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan could have earned a handsome salary when he came out of retirement for the second time in 2001. But instead the Chicago Bulls legend decided to give away a year’s pay. Jordan first retired in 1993. The North Carolina native had just led the Bulls to a third successive NBA title, cementing his status as the best player on the planet. After the death of his father, he decided to step away from basketball and try his hand at baseball instead. His bat-swinging career in baseball’s minor leagues was short-lived. He returned to action with the Bulls in 1995 and, between 1996 and ’98, led the Chicago side to another three straight championships before again hanging up his signature sneakers. ADVERT The third – and final – time Jordan was coaxed out of retirement, he joined the Washington Wizards ahead of the 2001-02 NBA season. Jordan was set to earn million of dollars upon his return to NBA action, but instead he decided to give away his first year’s salary with the Wizards in response to a seismic tragedy of the time. “Jordan said he will donate his first year’s salary to the victims of the Sep. 11 terrorist attacks,” a 2001 Washington Post article read. ADVERT According to a CNN report, the Chicago Bulls icon donated $100,000 to the children who lost their parents in the 11 September terrorist attack on the Pentagon. He pledged the rest of his salary to organisations set up to help victims of 9/11. Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal during an NBA fixture. Although he was unable to lead the Wizards to the play-offs, his legacy as arguably the greatest basketball player of all time was only enhanced by his performances into his 40s. Alex Chivers Alex Chivers Michael Jordan vs LeBron James is the GOAT debate that might never be settled. But another player wants to join them in the conversation – and he’d have to pull off a huge career shock to do so. Jordan won three consecutive NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls between 1991 and 1993, before suddenly and unexpectedly retiring from basketball ahead of the following season. ADVERT Later claiming physical and mental exhaustion, the superstar swapped basketball for minor league baseball, and went to play for the Birmingham Barons – part of the farm system for the Chicago White Sox. Jordan famously unretired and made the return to the Bulls in 1995, and went on to win three more Championship rings. Now Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has his eye on surpassing Jordan’s multi sports achievements by winning titles in both the NBA and the NFL. ADVERT In his career so far, Edwards has been named an All Star twice and won an Olympic Gold medal at the Paris Games. But an NBA championship still eludes him, and he claims if he does win a ring in the next 3-4 years, he will make the switch to the NFL and try and win a Super Bowl. Speaking as part of ESPN’s Cover Story, Edwards told NFL star wide receiver Justin Jefferson: “I think it’s easy. Football players can’t go play basketball. I told my buddies, I said, ‘If I win a ring in the next 3-4 years, I’m going to play football.” ADVERT A clearly shocked Jefferson responded: “No, you’re not.” Michael Jordan playing baseball Michael Jordan playing baseball Jefferson is the face of the Minnesota Vikings NFL franchise, and the pair were being interviewed as part of a feature in which they recreate the iconic photo of Kevin Garnett and Randy Moss from 2000. Edwards’ apparently lofty ambitions of becoming the first player to make the successful switch from the NBA to the NFL might be traced back to his childhood. ADVERT At the age of 10, the future NBA shooting guard was a star running back in youth football. And back in 2020, he also claimed he could have made it in Major League Baseball if he chose. He said: “I used to play baseball when I was young. I could have went to the MLB. “I’m serious, I’m not even joking. I played pitcher, shortstop, third base, center field. I was fourth-fifth hitter. I won’t back away.” ADVERT Image Getty In total, Jordan got his hands on six NBA Championships, six NBA Finals MVPs, five regular season MVPs, and one NBA Defensive Player of the Year. Furthermore, he was an 11x All-NBA, 9x All-Defensive, 14x NBA All-Star, 10x NBA Scoring Champion, and 3x NBA Steals Champion. Straight clean-up.” Featured Image Credit: Getty Images Topics: NBA, Michael Jordan Alex Chivers Alex Chivers Why Michael Jordan hasn’t spoken to Kevin Hart for years due to ongoing feud with Hollywood star Published 13:33 21 Oct 2024 GMT+1 Why Michael Jordan hasn’t spoken to Kevin Hart for years due to ongoing feud with Hollywood star The NBA legend hasn’t spoken to Hart in years. Alex Brotherton Alex Brotherton Kevin Hart has explained why NBA legend Michael Jordan has “had an attitude” with him for years. He may be the greatest basketball player of all time but that hasn’t saved Michael Jordan from being the victim of several Kevin Hart jokes. The American comedian has made a number of digs at Jordan over the years. In fact, he’s previously taken aim at Jeffrey and Marcus Jordan, his two sons. ADVERT During the Acting My Age tour, Hart revealed that Jordan hasn’t spoken to him in years after he poked fun at the NBA icon during a charity event. “Michael’s had an attitude with me for years because I hosted a celebrity event for him and he came in late. I saw him coming in late [and] I hit him with [a joke],” Hart told the audience at his Atlantic City show on July 21. “It was quick. It was all in fun. I don’t know where it came from. I just hit him with a quick one. Michael had an attitude. Hasn’t talked to me since.” It doesn’t seem like Hart is particularly bothered though. “I don’t give a s***. I couldn’t care less. I couldn’t f****** care less,” he said. “I’m at a point in my life where it’s very hard to bother me. ADVERT “I’m 45 years old and it’s not about the progression of life. You get to the point where little things don’t matter. I’m not the same person I once was.” During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel in 2016, Hart went out of his way to joke about Jordan’s fashion choices and facial hair. “What age do you get to where it’s okay to wear your pants that high, and nobody addresses it?” Hart asked. The comedian joked that Jordan is a “horrible dresser” during his performance at the Etess Arena at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
